Curator’s Statement
THE ABSENCE SHOW.
The exhibition Absence explores the quiet weight of what is no longer present, what has been lost, removed, or left unspoken. It brings together the diverse group of contemporary artists whose work centers on traces, voids, and silences – the emotional, spatial, and conceptual dimensions of absence.
Through painting, photography, works on paper, sculpture, and mixed media, the exhibition navigates the space between presence and disappearance. Veiled forms, vanishing landscapes, the Arctic whiteness, paper constructions, a performance recorded in black and white film, become symbols of memory, longing, and the impermanence of human experience. Rather than focusing solely on loss, the show invites viewers to consider absence as a generative space – that holds potential, provokes reflection, and encourages deep listening.
In a time marked by fragmentation and disconnection, Absence asks: what remains when something is taken away? How do we reckon with the invisible, and how does the act of noticing the absent transform our perception of the present?
The exhibition is both elegiac and quietly radical -a meditation on what it means to see, to miss, and to remember.
